Getting found How to Get Your Business Found in ChatGPT
Six strategies to help ChatGPT and other AI assistants understand what your company does: one definition, direct answers, crawler access, evidence and consistency beyond your site.

In short
To get ChatGPT and other AI assistants to describe your company accurately, you need four things: one clear definition of who you are and what you do, repeated everywhere; content that answers real questions directly; a site their crawlers can read; and consistency with what other sites say about you. Nobody can guarantee a mention, but you can greatly improve the odds.
Try it: ask an AI assistant what your company does. If the answer is vague, outdated or, worse, mixes you up with someone else, it isn’t bad luck. It almost always reflects what your site and profiles say, or don’t say. Here are the steps, in order of impact. 1. Check what they say today
Before changing anything, ask the same five or six questions in two or three assistants and save the answers with the date. For example: “What does [your company] do?”, “Which companies offer [your service] for [your client] in [your city or state]?” and “Is [your company] a good option for [need]?”. Repeat the test monthly. Answers vary, so the trend matters more than any single response.
2. Write one definition of your company
Assistants build their picture of your company from fragments. If your website says “digital agency”, your LinkedIn says “consultancy” and a directory says “graphic design”, the result will be muddled. Write a single definition and use it everywhere:
- your company’s exact name;
- its category, in words your buyers use;
- your main services, always named the same way;
- who you work with and in which markets;
- who leads it.
Use it on your home page, your About page, your site footer, your professional profiles and your Organization structured data.
3. Answer real questions, up front
Assistants pull passages, not whole pages. A service page that opens with a generic line is hard to cite. Start each section with the answer: what the service is, who it’s for and what it includes, in two or three sentences that stand on their own. Then add the detail.
FAQs work well when they’re the questions your clients actually ask, with direct answers.
4. Let the crawlers read your site
Each assistant uses its own crawlers. According to its documentation, OpenAI separates OAI-SearchBot, which surfaces sites in ChatGPT search, from GPTBot, which collects content to train its models. You can allow the first and block the second if you prefer. Other providers follow similar approaches.
- Check your robots.txt: some sites block these crawlers without realizing it.
- Ask your host whether its firewall blocks them. It happens more often than you’d think.
- Make sure important content is in the HTML and doesn’t depend on JavaScript running.
5. Provide evidence that can be verified
Sourced data, identifiable authors and real examples build trust with people and with the systems that summarize your content. Avoid claims you can’t back up: an assistant may repeat them, and then you’ll have nothing to stand on.
6. Look after what others say about you
Assistants also learn from other sites: professional directories, associations, articles that mention you and your profiles. Make sure that information is current and consistent with your definition. You don’t need to be everywhere, but what’s out there should be right.

AI Search / GEO
We define your entity, check crawler access and your site’s citable content, and track answers with repeated prompts. No guaranteed mentions.
What not to do
Create fake review pages, repeat keywords to “train” the AI or publish mass auto-generated content. Besides not working, it damages trust in your company.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay to show up in ChatGPT?
Organic answers from assistants can’t be bought. If an assistant shows ads, they’re labeled as such and work separately.
Does blocking GPTBot remove me from ChatGPT?
Not necessarily. According to OpenAI’s documentation, GPTBot is used for training and OAI-SearchBot for search, so they can be configured separately.
Is Lume Digital affiliated with OpenAI?
No. Lume Digital has no commercial relationship with OpenAI or any other AI assistant provider. We mention these tools because they’re the ones your buyers use.
How long until I see a difference?
There’s no fixed timeline. It depends on when each system rereads your site and the sources it cites, which is why it’s tracked over several months.
